Online Blackjack Guide

There are more online blackjack variants than any other online casino game except for perhaps slots. The variations have to do with the number of decks, whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17, whether insurance is allowed and conditions for splitting and doubling. The basic game play is the same. The objective of the game is to have a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand value without going over.

When players access the game the blackjack layout appears on the monitor. The player’s balance is also depicted usually at the bottom of the screen. One chip of every denomination is displayed. The player clicks on the chip he wants to bet and then on the betting area on the layout. The amount of the bet is deducted from the player’s balance. The player then clicks the deal button and two cards are dealt face up to him and one card face up and one card face down to the dealer. The player makes his moves till he busts or decides to stand. The options available to the player are highlighted so that he is aware of them. The player’s and the dealer’s hand values are also displayed for the player’s convenience. After the player’s moves are completed the computer makes the dealer’s moves as per the stated rules. If the player wins he is paid out according to the rules and his balance gets credited. A normal win pays even money and a blackjack pays 3 to 2. The player can then play the same wager by clicking the rebet button, or place a new bet using the process described earlier or exit from the game.

There are five moves available to the online blackjack player. ‘Hit’ indicates that he wants to draw another card. ‘Stand’ indicates that he is satisfied with his hand value and does not want to draw another card. ‘Double’ allows the player to double his wager. This move has to be made as soon ad the cards are dealt. Once a player doubles he has to take one and only one more cards. If the two dealt cards of the player are of identical value then the player can split the hand. He has to place another identical wager and play both hands as independent hands. This move is called ‘Split’. If the dealer is dealt an ace as his face up card then the player can take ‘Insurance’ against the dealer getting a blackjack. The insurance amount is half the normal bet. If the dealer gets blackjack then the insurance pays 2 to1 and he loses his normal bet.
